Meet & Greet: Melissa and Intensity Stage School

Melissa Kelly, 4th from left to right

We recently invited Melissa Kelly to tell us a little bit more about Intensity Stage School and their involvement in St. Andrew’s.

What do you do in St. Andrew’s?

We hold classes in singing, acting/drama and dancing for kids aged between 3-18+years. Our dancing styles vary between hip hop, lyrical, musical theatre, ballet, commercial, jazz and much more.

How can someone get involved in your classes?

Our doors are always open to new members. We rehearse on Saturdays from 11:30am - 1pm (for ages 3-6) and 11:30am - 2:30pm (for ages 7+) and also on Wednesdays (only for ages 7+) from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. So just dropping by to check out a class free of charge is always an option! Also, our Instagram account is “Intensity Stage School” which anyone can add and view our updates and pop us a message/dm. Or you can simply WhatsApp message me on 085 - 101 1901.

Tell us something more about the group:

We are a stage school who pride ourselves on offering a warm, friendly, reliable environment for young superstars to come in and grow, learn and develop their skills and talents while making memories and friends to last a lifetime.

We have a fully committed team behind us who adore what they do and love nothing more than to see each individual child grow in confidence and skills with each passing week. We also like to bring in some outside teachers to run a masterclass/ workshop from time to time so the kids are constantly learning new and different things.

We take part in numerous competitions throughout the year taking home medals and trophies alike, which always bring the biggest smiles to each child who takes part and always gives the kids a goal to work towards. It allows our kids to dance/sing/act on stages all over Ireland which is an achievement in itself.

We also aim to run a yearly local showcase/pantomime for family and friends to attend and see/support their rising stars and see just how far they have come on their individual stage school journey.

We are open to all levels! Everyone’s journey starts with a first step - and we would be honoured to have you/ your child take theirs with us here in Intensity.

Last but not least, have you an interesting or inspiring fact you would like to share with us:

We were previously known as Phoenix Variety Group which ran for close to 20 years and was a home/family for hundreds of children over the years! Some of which have gone on to become performers in the UK and Ireland, or open their own stage schools and even become teachers here!

After Covid hit and a lot changed, we thought maybe it was time that we should too!

So here we are! New, fresh and hoping to welcome new members to come on this exciting new chapter with us …hopefully for the next 20+ years!

Thanks Melissa! And best of luck with the fundraising showcase here in St. Andrew’s on Wed May 24th at 7.30pm!
