Inclusion & Integration Week
St. Andrew's is delighted to take part in Dublin City's Inclusion & Integration week which takes place from Mon 7th to the 14th November. Difference and diversity is all around us so why not celebrate it! Here in St. Andrew's we have a variety of groups who rent our hall and meeting rooms to come together. Such groups vary from having a particular purpose such as the Rialto Men's Gardening Group and the Failte Isteach English classes. Others are characterised by ethnic or religious identity - the Amal Women's Association, the Islamic Cultural & Welfare Association, the Organisation of Pakastani Youth Ireland, the Jamaicans in Ireland Diaspora and the wide range of African groups who meet regularly in our centre.
We put a call out to our groups and asked if they would like to partake in this week by organising an event, workshop or exhibition that would be open to the public especially the wider community of Rialto. Five groups have taken up the challenge. We hope that you can support them by attending their events. Bring a neighbour, a friend and/or family. And do, of course, feel free to forward this invitation to all!
Art Workshop
The Amal Women’s Association, a Muslim women-led organisation, are running a free art class for the community with abstract artist, Eman Rajab, on Tuesday 8th November 10am to 12.30pm. Eman's mission is to use art in a joyful way to integrate immigrant women from all countries of the world to Ireland. Places are limited so you must register in advance.
Holistics Morning
Rialto Community Network are organising a holistics morning on Thursday November 10th. There will be tasters in massage, reiki, reflexology, acupuncture, aura readings and mini facials. This is an inclusive morning open to the people of Rialto and will provide an opportunity for our local communities to experience methods of relaxation and to socialise with each other. Light refreshments will be served.
Jamaica Day
On Thursday Nov 10th from 2pm to 6pm, Jamaicans in Ireland Diaspora invite everyone to their Jamaica Day exhibition. Here you will get to experience Jamaican culture, arts and crafts, fashion and music and sample Jamaican food. Even if you only have a few spare minutes, why not pop in for a look!
Meet the Indigenous People of Biafra
Come along on Saturday November 12th 3pm to 5pm for an event that will showcase and educate about Biafra’s rich cultural heritage, languages, arts, literature, historical facts, human and technological achievements, and much more. The event will also illustrate Biafra’s huge entertainment heritage both comically, lyrically and dramatically.
Afro Star Cultural Dance
Last but not least - Imo Indigenes Ireland (the people from Imo State extraction in Nigeria living in Ireland) will present their cultural dance (“atilogwu) to the wider community on Sunday November 13th at 4.30pm. This short event is a demonstration of the rich cultural heritage of the Imo Indigenes community, and all are welcome.
